Stage Analysis and Stan Weinstein's Masterclass

Thankfully, one of the first key trading concepts that I learned was to focus only on stocks in strong Stage 2 uptrends and to never buy or hold stocks in Stage 4 declines.

But how do you determine these stages?

The stages are determined by price & volume action, the stock’s location relative to the 30 week moving average, and the trend of that moving average.

If you study historical charts of the best performing stocks, the vast majority of strong gains occurs when the stocks are in Stage 2 uptrends; rising above an increasing 30 week moving average.

However, all stocks eventually lose the favor of the institutions and if you fail to recognize the signs of the longer term trend changing, any strong performance can evaporate in a Stage 4 Decline.

We’ve seen this take place over the past few months in the leaders from 2020-2021. Many of these stocks have completely round tripped. ETSY, PTON, TDOC, NFLX, ZM, FVRR… the list goes on.

Stage analysis is key to identifying whether a stock is being accumulated or distributed. It will help you identify what to buy, when to buy, when to take profits, and when to lock in gains.

Fortunes are made during Stage 2 Uptrends, then lost during Stage 4 Downtrends.

This goes for market analysis as well.
