Key Lessons from my Interviews with Stan Weinstein, Market Legend.

Over the past few months I’ve gotten the unique opportunity to interview Stan Weinstein for his upcoming Masterclass with TraderLion.

1. Keep it simple

Throughout the interviews this was a message that Stan constantly stressed. Keep your charts clean with just a few indicators as references.

Too much information both on your chart as well as through social media or news will degrade your decision making ability. Keep it simple and focus on what truly matters: price and volume.

2. Process over Performance

To succeed with investing and trading over decades you need to have a rules based system founded from careful study of what works in the market. Focus your attention on building this system and process over achieving short term results.

We can’t force the market to do what we want. However, with discipline and by executing properly on high probability trades, we will outperform well over time.

3. Group Strength

Group strength and performance has become increasingly important for Stan over the years.

Two equally strong chart patterns will result in quite different performance depending on the strength of their respective groups and sectors. Focus your buys on the 2-3 strongest groups.

Always look for themes and focus on the best stocks in the best groups in the best sectors.

4. Preparation and Mindset

This was an area that Stan focused quite a bit on. You need a consistent routine to achieve consistent results. We discussed his routines for stock selection, market prep, entries, position management, exercise, and health.

In addition, we discussed trading psychology and the proper mentality traders and investors need to become successful.

5. The Tape Tells All

Finally, Stan’s mantra: The Tape Tells All was at the core of all of his explanations. The idea is that the only information we need is price action which reflects known news, fundamentals, and the expectation of future growth.

Through careful study of price and volume action we can determine how the largest institutions are interpreting this information and positioning accordingly.
